Kyiv, València – 2026

The experimental testing phase of ChemiSensing, developed within the Kyiv pilot, has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of collaborative digital tools for heritage conservation.

Conceived as a validation stage under real-world professional conditions, the testing phase was designed to assess both the operational performance and collaborative capacity of the #ChemiSensing platform within a complex heritage environment. The initiative brought together a multidisciplinary team of conservators and curators from the Santa Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv and the Universitat de València, who participated in structured remote working sessions.

Throughout the process, participants evaluated the platform’s interoperability and usability across multiple devices, including virtual reality headsets, tablets and personal computers.

This multi-device framework enabled a comparative analysis of interaction modes — from fully immersive environments to tactile and desktop-based navigation — allowing the team to assesshow scientific datasets and 3D heritage models can be accessed, interpreted and discussed collaboratively across geographical distance.

Beyond technical validation, the testing phase served as a methodological exercise in analysing synchronous workflows and interdisciplinary decision-making within a shared digital environment. Observations focused on communication dynamics and collaborative problem-solving processes among professionals from different disciplinary backgrounds.

The results confirm ChemiSensing’s potential as a robust digital ecosystem capable of supporting remote, interdisciplinary cooperation in heritage conservation contexts. By integrating advanced visualisation technologies with structured collaborative workflows, the platform contributes to the ongoing digital transformation of cultural heritage management.

The completion of this testing phase represents a key step forward in strengthening resilient, technology-driven methodologies for the conservation and documentation of cultural heritage in complex and geographically distributed contexts.
